I saw it with
my very own eyes!
Camera is an eye witness: it records occasions of our lives, captures them in more or less well designed shots for us to preserve, destroy, trim, put on display or edit into narratives. As Annette Kuhn has put it, photographs are circumstancial evidence, visual proof, the stuff that family stories and autobiograhical narratives are made of.
Family albums are smooth surfaces, well edited historybooks through which the family represents itself to itself and a selected amount of outsiders. Pictures and texts: illustrations, descriptions, ready-made interpretations.

Looking back, I can see it all clearly now. |

Looking good! |
Photographs of myself, arranged in chronological order form a narrative of the self - from birth to childhood, adolescence and coming of age. Chosen from the wide range of hundreds of snaps, the selection represents me in smily, well-groomed, tidy and friendly pics:a coherent and comprehensible body-text indeed.
The white spots, blanks, blind spots, the material edited from family fictions display a different reality of not so well organized postures; sad, bored, angry and hostile faces; pimples and bruises; secret moments of lust, humiliation, embarrasment.
